Navigating the timing of expanding your church team can be a delicate art. Smoothly facilitating the transition and preparing the existing staff can be challenging. Identifying the correct time to step into the hiring process ensures you make the most out of new staff hires without burning out your existing team or missing out on valuable ministry opportunities.

When Should You Hire?

No one-size-fits-all solution determines when a church should hire. However, some indicators might suggest that it could be time to welcome a new member into your team:

  1. Current Team is Overwhelmed: Is your church staff consistently working long hours or under constant pressure? High stress levels can lead to burnout, potentially leading to a higher turnover rate. Examining whether your team is operating at a sustainable pace or on a path to exhaustion can help ascertain whether you need to hire.

  2. Missed Ministry Opportunities: If your church is growing faster than you can facilitate, it's likely a sign you need to onboard new staff members. Note occasions where a lack of church staff has prevented you from pursuing outreach opportunities or adequately discipling new believers.
