Moving from Competition to Collaboration among Churches

The church landscape can often foster a mindset of competition rather than unity among believers. Despite sharing the same ultimate goal of spreading the message of Jesus, churches often find themselves vying for resources, attention, and people.

This poses an important question: How can we shift from a competitive spirit to a collaborative mindset that fosters healthy church staff?

The Competitive Mindset

It's easy to feel the pressure to keep up when we see other churches growing, launching new programs, or attracting young families. These feelings of comparison can lead us to view other churches as rivals rather than partners in gospel advancement.

Embracing Collaboration Over Competition

However, a spirit of unity aligns more closely with the teachings of Jesus and Paul, who urged believers to work together for the kingdom. Here are some key steps we can take:

  1. Remember the Bigger Picture: Our primary goal is gospel advancement and building the kingdom of God, not just our individual churches. When we keep this bigger picture in mind, we can see other churches as allies, not competitors.
  2. Embrace Unique Strengths: Every church has its unique strengths and gifts. Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, focus on what your church does best.
  3. Practice Generosity: Sharing resources and ideas generously fosters a collaborative environment that can help us learn from each other and make a greater impact.
  4. Foster Relationships: Building relationships with leaders from other churches can open up opportunities for collaboration without compromising on your theological stance.

A Call to Action

In the spirit of collaboration, I challenge you to reach out to a pastor from another church in your community this week. Share what God is doing in your church, inquire about their experiences, and explore possible ways to work together. Collaboration over competition can be a game changer for advancing the gospel.
