Apply Now! Minister to Children and Their Families in Roanoke, VA

Bonsack Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia is in search of a Minister to Children and Their Families.

Bonsack Baptist Church Children's Ministry

Bonsack Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking a full-time Minister to Children and Their Families to provide intentional, Christ-centered leadership to their youngest members and those who care for them. This individual will be responsible for implementing, directing, and continually evaluating a comprehensive program of Christian education and discipleship for children from birth through 6th grade. The goal of this ministry is to help children come to know, love, and follow Jesus, while also encouraging and equipping parents and caregivers to be the primary spiritual leaders in their homes.

This role will include casting and communicating a clear vision for children’s ministry that aligns with the overall mission and values of Bonsack Baptist Church; planning, organizing, and overseeing age-appropriate children’s programs and events; and creating safe, welcoming, and engaging environments where children can grow in their understanding of the Bible and experience authentic Christian community. The Minister to Children and Their Families will recruit, train, shepherd, and empower a strong team of volunteers, helping them to serve effectively and joyfully. In addition, this person will work collaboratively with other pastors and ministry staff to integrate children and their families into the broader life of the church, ensuring a smooth pathway of discipleship as children grow and transition into student ministry and beyond.

In this role, you will oversee preschool and children’s educational ministries, including Life Groups, Discipleship Training, Mission Education, and Vacation Bible School. You will enlist, train, and develop leaders for all preschool and children’s ministry areas, while building and leading a dedicated Children’s Ministry Team. You will also partner with the Children’s Ministry Assistant to schedule childcare for weekday activities, such as Bible studies and special events that require childcare. In collaboration with the Minister of Youth and the Director of Christian Education, you will develop and implement a unified Christian education strategy for children.

The ideal candidate will have a growing, loving, and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, along with a genuine love for children and an understanding of childhood development and special needs education. A seminary degree is preferred, particularly in Christian education with an emphasis on children’s ministry. Candidates should have at least five years of experience serving children in a church or related child-focused setting, as well as strong organizational and administrative skills.

Bonsack Baptist Church is located in the northeast part of the Roanoke Valley, an area that has transformed over recent decades from rural countryside into a thriving suburban community. Although it sits just six miles from downtown Roanoke, the neighborhood has a distinct identity and strong sense of place. Residents tend to put down roots here, supported by two excellent school systems. The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail pass within six miles of the church, and Smith Mountain Lake is less than a half hour to the south. It is, in every sense, a beautiful place to live.
