Founded in 1866, this independent Christian Church in the Restoration Movement has served its rural community for 160 years. Today, approximately 50 people gather each Sunday for blended worship, expository preaching, and weekly Communion. The congregation is debt-free and, following a difficult season, is experiencing stability and renewal. Its next pastor will help build on that foundation with humility, patience, and hope.
A small congregation with a generous reach
Onward’s commitment to sharing the love of Jesus extends well beyond Sunday morning. Its annual Chicken Noodle Dinner, a community tradition since 1946, reflects a longstanding culture of hospitality and service. The church assists neighbors through a benevolence fund, supports local outreach and overseas missionaries, and maintains a meaningful partnership with The Ark Christian Ministries.
An active Women’s Fellowship helps meet practical needs through food pantry support, assistance to students and families, and contributions to community ministries. For the next pastor, these relationships offer a foundation for strengthening the church’s witness and engaging the next generation.
A pastor who will serve alongside the church
Onward is looking for a leader who loves Scripture and loves people. The ideal candidate will bring formal theological training and/or ministry experience, a working knowledge of the Restoration Movement, and alignment with the church’s theological convictions.
Clear, relatable biblical preaching will be central to the role. So will compassionate pastoral care: visiting hospitalized members and shut-ins, supporting grieving families, and taking an active interest in people’s everyday lives.
This pastor will collaborate with church leadership, encourage missions and fellowship ministries, and help the congregation connect with youth and younger families. Approachability, integrity, sound judgment, and a sense of humor will serve this leader well. Onward wants someone who becomes part of the church family and serves shoulder to shoulder with its members.
