The Job
Pompey Community Church is seeking a gifted Worship Pastor to partner with the Lead Pastor in planning and leading engaging Sunday services. This role blends musical excellence with pastoral care: selecting worship songs, organizing and training the worship team, and fostering a culture of discipleship within the ministry. Proficiency in vocals and guitar is essential, along with the ability to shepherd and mentor both the worship team and congregation. The Worship Pastor will help establish a cohesive worship identity, integrate a missional focus into worship, and may have opportunities to participate in the teaching ministry.
The Location
Nestled just 15 miles south of Syracuse, Pompey offers the charm of rural living with easy access to urban amenities. Surrounded by rolling hills, farms, glacial lakes, and waterfalls, the area is a haven for those who love the outdoors. Residents enjoy year-round activities like skiing, hiking, and exploring the natural beauty of Central New York. The community is known for its hospitality and friendliness, with a culture that values authentic relationships. Distinct seasons—mild summers, colorful autumns, snowy winters, and fresh springs—make this a picturesque place to call home.
The Church
Founded in 1948 and reestablished as an independent, non-denominational church in 2005, Pompey Community Church has a rich history of faithfulness and growth. Today, the congregation averages 150 in weekly attendance, operates debt-free, and is seeing increased engagement, giving, and ministry participation. The church is committed to glorifying God and making disciples, with a vibrant discipleship pathway and strong outreach both locally and globally. Under the leadership of their recently called Lead Pastor, PCC is embracing a season of renewed vision and ministry expansion.
The Worship Experience
Worship at Pompey Community Church blends the best of contemporary Christian music and traditional hymns, drawing from artists like CityAlight, Sovereign Grace, and Vertical Worship. Services typically run 80 minutes, featuring four worship songs and a 45-minute expository sermon. The worship team uses a full-band format, with an emphasis on theological depth, musical excellence, and congregational engagement. Every element of the service is designed to guide people into a deeper encounter with God and to apply biblical truth to everyday life.
