I love the new year.
Fresh beginnings. A new start. A clean slate.
But there’s something about the new year (or for me, the last couple weeks of the old year) that causes me to reflect on the past year, look forward to the new year, and yes, make a few resolutions that I’ll probably break in the next few days (or hours).
As you reflect on what 2022 will bring, here are some of the things that I’ve been thinking about that may (or may not) be helpful.
Do you want the good news or the bad news first?
Bad news? OK. Here goes.
2022 will continue to be a year of challenges and changes in the church world.
I know that one year ago, I was anticipating 2022 to bring some sense of normalcy back to the Church world. The pandemic was surely on its last leg and in no time we’d be back to a less stressful ministry landscape.
Alas, it was not to be.
The pandemic is still with us. And simply changing the calendar to a new year did not flip any magical switch.
So, we’re still dealing with differing views on masks, vaccinations, and more. We enter 2022 seemingly with all of the same problems as 2021, but with some additional stress added in (economic and inflation concerns and other political and cultural drama).
As much as I’d like to say that 2022 will be easier and less stressful, I’m far from convinced that will be the case. We need to be prepared for what might be another bumpy year in the life of the churches we serve.
OK… that’s the bad news. 2022 will be dicey.
The good news?
We get to do this.
There is no greater calling than leading God’s people. Than building into lives. Than seeing life change. Than being able to serve Jesus vocationally.
Our work is Kingdom work. Capital K.
It is meaningful, life-giving work.
And has eternal significance.
But let’s be honest. It can also suck the life right out of you.
The last two years have been difficult.
I don’t know where you are as you enter 2022. But I know that we are all somewhere on the ‘exhausted’ to ‘excited’ continuum.
As you enter 2022, know that you have a friend in Chemistry Staffing.
