Being thankful, even in 2020
Those who know me know that the inscription inside my wedding ring is Habakkuk 1:5:
"Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told."
On its surface, this is the ultimate coffee cup Bible verse. Dig more deeply into what is going on in the book and we begin to realize that we may not necessarily choose the utterly amazing things that God is about to do.
In many ways, 2020 has been that for us. A pandemic, a toxic political season, and people at one another's throats. This is a year that many of us would never have believed... even if we were told. But through the struggles, the pain, and the loss, we can be grateful that none of this has been a surprise to our God. In the midst of the challenges, frustrations, and heartbreaks that we have experienced, God has been moving.
Habakkuk 3:17-18 says:
"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior."
My prayer for you during this season is that even though we may not be meeting in person and we are eating turkey together over Zoom, that you will take time to remember all the good that our God has done and that you will pause to rejoice in the Lord and be joyful in God our Savior.
Please know that I am thankful for you, for your sacrifice, and your willingness to lean into the hard work for the sake of the gospel.
