The Job

First Reformed Church is seeking a Director of Family Life Ministries who believes that family discipleship is one of the most important investments a church can make.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape how children, students, and parents grow together in Christ within a healthy, multigenerational congregation that has faithfully served its community for 175 years. More than simply overseeing programs, the next Director of Family Life Ministries will help create a cohesive pathway that guides families from early childhood through graduation and beyond.

The church is not looking to change its ministry philosophy. Instead, leadership is seeking a strategic builder who can evaluate what currently exists, identify opportunities for improvement, strengthen ministry systems, develop leaders, and create a more intentional discipleship pathway for children,  students, and families. As a newly created position, there is significant opportunity to build, improve, and develop ministry systems while partnering with an experienced staff and committed volunteers.

The Director of Family Life Ministries will provide vision, leadership, and oversight for children's ministry, student ministry, volunteer development, parent discipleship, curriculum planning, and family ministry initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a relational leader who enjoys equipping others, developing volunteers, and creating environments where faith is nurtured across generations.

For the right leader, this is an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on families for years to come.

The Location

Oostburg, Wisconsin, is the kind of community where people still know their neighbors and relationships matter. Known for its strong Dutch heritage, family-centered culture, excellent schools, and close-knit atmosphere, Oostburg offers a quality of life that is increasingly difficult to find.

Located near the shores of Lake Michigan, residents enjoy beaches, boating, fishing, parks, hiking, and outdoor recreation throughout the year. The community combines small-town warmth with convenient access to Sheboygan, Cedar Grove, Kohler, and the greater Milwaukee region.

Families are drawn to Oostburg because of its highly regarded schools, safe neighborhoods, strong community involvement, and values-driven culture. It is an ideal place to build relationships, raise a family, and invest in long-term ministry.

The Church

Founded in 1850 by Dutch immigrants seeking religious freedom, First Reformed Church has been a faithful witness to the Gospel in Oostburg for 175 years. Throughout its history, the church has remained committed to Biblical teaching, Christ-centered worship, discipleship, prayer, and compassionate service.

Today, approximately 400 people gather each weekend as part of a healthy, multigenerational congregation that is prayerfully discerning how God is leading them into the future. The church's mission is simple yet powerful: A place for your heart to be transformed by the love of Jesus Christ.

The congregation is known for caring deeply for people, serving others, investing in discipleship, supporting missions, and building authentic community. Ministries include vibrant children's and student programs, Life Groups, Acts 29 Young Adult Ministry, a Community Food Pantry, Prison Ministry, local outreach initiatives, and partnerships that extend the church's impact both locally and globally.

As the church celebrates 175 years of God's faithfulness, leaders are looking ahead with a renewed vision for the future. They see significant opportunities to strengthen discipleship, deepen community engagement, expand hospitality, and become an even greater hub of ministry and outreach within the Oostburg community.

The Worship Experience

Worship at First Reformed Church thoughtfully blends tradition and innovation while keeping Christ at the center of every gathering. Traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs are woven together to create an atmosphere that is both reverent and engaging across generations.

Biblical preaching, meaningful prayer, congregational participation, Scripture readings, testimonies, and creative elements all contribute to a worship experience that is warm, authentic, and Gospel-centered. Music is led through a combination of organ, piano, guitar, drums, vocal teams, and other instrumental elements that support congregational worship.

The church values worship that is deeply rooted in historic Christian faith while remaining accessible and welcoming to newcomers and longtime members alike. The result is a worship experience that balances theological depth, relational warmth, and contemporary accessibility for people of all ages.
